In the medical community, cannabidiol is somewhat known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to limit cell proliferation in certain types of cells within our bodies.

In November 2007, researchers at California Pacific Medical Center finished one of the earliest studies on the effects of CBD on cancer. The study concluded that CBD shows promise for controlling the spread of malignant breast tumors and even stalling metastasis (the process of cancerous cells spreading into different parts of the body) by “turning off” the activity of a gene responsible for tumor metastasis.

Since then, many studies have verified that CBD has inhibitory effects on several types of cancer including breast cancer, colon cancer, certain types of brain tumors, leukemia and others.

These results have been verified by dozens of scientific teams, although the exact inhibitory mechanisms are still under study.

CBD has also been shown to inhibit benign tumor growth as well.

CBD enhances the human body’s ability to battle cancer; precisely, CBD has been  induces programmed cell death in breast cancer cells by coordinating the cross-talk between two of our body’s defense mechanisms against cancer, apoptosis (the process of programmed cell death) and autophagy (the breakdown of individual cell components). These, weaken and destroy cancer cells.

In addition, it seems that CBD renders certain cancerous cells more susceptible to chemotherapy agents.

Along with CBD’s documented effects on pain relief, all the above make CBD a very promising drug for synergistic use alongside currently widespread chemotherapy treatments.
